Scientists Creating Elements

Most of the current research with the periodic table includes the creation of man-made elements. One of the elements is "ununtrium." This radioactive, synthetic element was confirmed by Japanese scientists in 2003. It has 113 protons. It's most stable isotope, ununtrium-286, has a half-life of 20 seconds.

There are many more elements that have been created recently. Ununpentium, element 115, was also discovered in 2003. When ununpentium begins breaking apart, ununtrium is formed. Ununpentium's half-life is only one hundred and seventy-three milliseconds. This is a common element used in researching the properties of atomic nuclei.
